$18 would allow us to purchase 6 fish. Fish are very calming and soothing. They also provide a boost to classroom morale and teach responsibility. My students take care of our classroom fish by doing all of the tank cleaning and feeding. They feel very empowered by this. We also use guppies in our populations and ecosystems unit to teach food webs as well as our genetics unit when they reproduce. It makes their lessons matter when it applies to things they care about like classroom pets.
